OK. So I am going to give this blogging/chatter thing a try. I hope I am doing this correctly.
After a bunch of little administrative hoops to jump through, our adoption dossier finally went to China authorities a couple of weeks ago, so the process is pretty much out of our hands at this point. The hope is that this year, Mia will have a little sister in our home in Seattle. There will be a different set of challenges for sure. This child will be older (age 3 in February) and we will be completely disrupting her current life and attachments. She will have acquired some language (not English) and will be walking. And there may be medical issues, of an unknown magnitude at this point, that will need to be addressed. But at the office, I have been working on an orphanage in Tanzania and on this exhibit project for the Gates Foundation where I see all of these unbelievably sobering statistics about orphans and global health...so somehow this seems to tie-in. Sharon and I are both excited and wondering about how life will change for us and Mia.
Thanks Hedi, for expending the energy to talk on the phone yesterday. It was great to talk to you and to plan for when you are feeling better.

That's great. Finally, a little light at the end of the tunnel! Yes, another child will change the dymanics of your family, but it will be a good change! More complicated but more challenging for everyone! You are both so brave to plunge into this adventure! I hope you won't have to wait too much longer!
How exciting!!! Do you think it will be at the end of summer? In the fall? More toward Christmas? Wow...this is so amazing. It certainly will change yours and Mia's life...and we hope it will be all for the best. Have you picked out a name? Or what shall we call her while we are waiting?
We are hoping to go to China in the fall. But it is hard to say because everything has taken longer than expected. The waits for Chinese Adoptions generally have gotten much longer.
No name yet but the orphanage has named this girl "Min Ying", so that is what we have been calling her (but not very freely because Mia doesn't know yet). Remember how we referred to Mia as "Boo Boo Face" while we were waiting to go pick her up?

China in the fall. Doesn't that sound close? Wow...so thrilling. Is there any way she (Min Ying) can see your pictures now...before you go? Or is it not a sure sure enough thing to do that yet? Yes, that's right! Boo Boo Face! Min Ying is a really beautiful name. (We'll be happy with whatever you decide to call her)
Because the timeframe is not determined, and we want to be sure (as we possibly can be) that it will be this particular little girl, I think we will wait until we get confirmation from the China authorities before we show Mia the pictures. Otherwise, it might be traumatic or hard to explain if something changed and it also won't feel to Mia like "infinity" before we go to China.
